Pre-select your seat
Once your flights have been booked, you are eligible to choose your seat on the plane. Before selecting your seat, look up the airplane config online (we use seat guru) to ensure you don’t book a seat without a window, or those with limited recline. Please note that some airlines don’t allow for pre-selection of seats until 2 days before the flight, or some none at all. When this happens, you must confirm your seats at the check in desks at the airport.
Check-in prior to your flight
Check-in opens between 48 and 72 hours before a flight. You can confirm your seats, and just drop off your bags at the airport before your flight. Please ensure that you check the airline requirements, and arrive at the airport ahead of time. Usually 2-3 hours before your flight.
Food and drinks onboard
With long haul flights, food and drinks are free of charge. If you have any dietary requirements, you need to notify the airline at least 5 days before your scheduled flight. This can be done online (via the manage your booking tab generally).
The service usually starts 1.5 hours into the flight and depends on whether you having breakfast / lunch or dinner in the air. Drinks are unlimited. And if you require more food, you can always request more, if available, after everyone has had a meal.
Of recent, you can view the menu online prior to the flight. This way, you can always buy something to eat beforehand if it doesn’t suit.
Before taking your flight, you can enrol on the airline’s loyalty program. This way you earn airmiles which can be used for upgrades or other rewards that you may find useful. When you return, give it a few weeks before confirming if your account has been credited with your airmiles.
Travel pillow, ear plugs and an eye mask
If you on a long flight, you want to invest in a travel pillow, ear plugs and an eye mask. Trust me – it will be the best investment you ever made.
Entertainment on board
Often airlines have the latest movies on offer as well as your favourite classics. There are movies, series, music, and even games. Each person receives a headset which must be returned just before landing.
Airplane etiquette, and other airplane tips
For the food service, please put your seat in the upright position again.
If you flying economy class, you can only make use of the toilet in your coach.
Do not sleep or lean on the person next you, unless you know them and they okay with it. 😊
The blanket and headset are collected, and must be returned just before landing.
When leaving the plane, always check the seat pocket in front, as well your own seat to ensure that you haven’t left anything behind.
The rest will be explained via video when you onboard.
